Link Weekend at Bournemouth from 28 – 30 Sept
It was very impressive. We strongly felt the advantages of being the scholars of Rotary family. It was great that we could meet all the scholars (close to 100) over the world. Hope we could again someday and somewhere.

My host counselor is called Ian. He is very young, around 40 years old, compared to other rotarians.  He is very nice and straight forward. He loves Arsenal (but not Manchester, what’s a pity). I have joined their GM and the Bonfire Service on 3 Nov. Comparing to the firework in HK, it is……

Presentations
I have done 3 times and hope to do as many as possible. 1) Rotary Club of Wilmslow Dean: the GM of my host club. 2) Rotary Club of Dukinfield & Stalybridge: I went to their Anniversary Dinner, met more than 60 rotarians. I am very lucky that I can be one of the participants. 3) Ambassadorial Scholars Welcome Dinner: Can’t believe that 60 rotarians come to the dinner to welcome 4 scholars, haha. Thanks!!

My life in Manchester
As usual, I am extremely busy all the times. I will have class throughout the week except Wednesday. I have got a job from the University and have to work from Monday to Thursday. Together with my study, reading, essay, football, I am very busy every week. I hope to be relaxed……

Travel
I hope to visit all the countries in Europe!!!!

I am studying at City University of Hong Kong’s School of Creative Media for a Masters in Media Cultures. I am living in Kowloon Tong.

I come from the midwestern United States from the state of Iowa (about 4 hours west of Chicago). My interests converge at the intersection of creativity, community, and entreprenuership. I have previously worked as a social entrepreneur, director of an art house theater, and in feature film and video production. I’ve come to Hong Kong to learn more about the Asian media industries and Hong Kong and Chinese language, history, and culture. My hobbies include photography, cooking, movies, traveling, sports, and service to help young people.

I did my Ed.M (International Education Policy) at the Harvard Graduate School of Education from 2004-05, after getting my BSocSc (Government & Laws) and LLB from HKU. Now I’m teaching English at Pui Ching Education Centre. Mostly I’m dealing with standardized tests, overseas education counselling and F.5 dropouts enrolled under the youth employment scheme.

I took the MA in Media Production course in 2002, offered by the Birmingham Institute of Art & Design, University of Central England, Birmingham, concentrated on two production areas: TV and multimedia. I was and still am working in the design & multimedia field, specialising in print and multimedia productions.

For those who propose to study in the UK, you may want to know more about Rotary International in Great Britain & Ireland (RIBI).

In the first picture above is Lawrie Beswick, my hosted counsellor, and his wife Shirley. Lawrie sadly died in December 2002 due to cancer. I cannot thank enough to everyone who helped and supported me during the year, especially Shirley (who became a close friend of mine ever since) and Rotarians of the Kinver Club. Mr Roger Darby in the 3rd picture above (who was the Kinver Club President) and his families kindly took care of me during term breaks, and other scholars who kindly came to visit me or allowed me to visit & stay with them. It was a life changing experience and I shall miss Lawrie forever.
